Fabric clothing

We have high demands on our fabrics as regards the durablility, colour sustainability and easy to care for.

We always require comprehensive test results from the weavers, and we also makes tests ourselves to ensure results. Fabrics have to be taken good care of to last for a long time.

Placing

The first thing to consider is the location in the room. If you place the furniture in a room with large windows, in direct sunlight or right next to an element, the fabric will eventually be damaged. The fabric will eventually be fading and the fibers may become brighter.

Stains

Stains are something that is difficult to avoid. Whatever you do when you get a stain do not try to rub it away. What happens then is that you rub the dirt deeper into the fibers. The fabric may have a worn surface where you have rubbed and in the worst case a small color change can occur. Instead, try to dissolve the stain and then wash the clothing if the stain has not really disappeared. Most of our fabric covers are removable and washable, either water wash or dry clean. Your will find washing instructions inside the fabric covers.

Cushions

Many of our cushions are turnable and it is important to turn them around often. Down cushions demand more caring because the down will be packed while using the furniture. It is important to pound in air to keep the cushions nice and elastic.

Cleaning

Vacuum clean the couch on a regular basis. Dirt that accumulates on the couch and stays there for a long period is tearing on the fabric.

Leather

The leather we use on our furniture comes from Elmo Leather and is of aniline and semianiline qualities.

Aniline leather is dyed through and given only a light surface protection. This allows the leather to breathe, and leaves it extremely comfortable and soft.
Aniline leather ages very gracefully. A frequently used sofa in aniline leather acqurires its on patina over the years. As with all delicate materials, this natural surface is sensitive and needs careful maintenance.

Semianiline leather has, after being dyed through, been given a light pigmented coating that makes the leather more durable and easier to care for. The careful dyeing and surface finishing methods ensure that the leather maintains a natural, comfortable touch while making it more resistant to wear and tear.

Placing

Like a furniture with textiles, the location of the furniture is the first thing to consider. Do not place the furniture in direct sunlight or just next to an element (at least 30 cm away). The leather will then dry and change color on the exposed surfaces.

Cleaning

Vacuum clean the couch on a regular basis with a soft brush.

Leather protection

Lubricate the leather with moisturizing and impregnating products, ask in your store.

Cushions

Down cushions
The caring of your cushions is important for how your furniture will last. Many of our cushions are turnable and it is important to turn them around often. Down cushions demand more caring because the down will be packed while using the furniture. It is important to pound in air to keep the cushions nice and elastic.
Polyether cushions
Polyether cushions are the most sustainable cushions. If the are turnable, do so as often as you can.

Bases

Chrome
Many of the bases on our furniture are in chrome. It is one of the most durable finishes and it will last for many years. These require no special maintenance except to wipe away stains and dirt to keep their shiny surface.
Oiled wood
Oiled wood needs to be oiled 1-2 times a year, depending on where the sofa stands and what wear it is exposed to. If it is close to an element or in direct sunlight, it becomes dry faster and needs oil more often. When the base starts to look dry it's time to oil it.
Lacquered surfaces
We have lacquered bases in both wood and metal. These require no special maintenance except to wipe away stains and dirt.

Removable fabric covers

Remove the covers

  1. On most IRE models, you must start by unscrewing the base to remove the cover. Some legs can be unscrewed without any tools and for some you need a socket wrench or hexrench.
  2. Remove the cushions and pull up the zipper that is usually located on the back of the furniture. Then loosen the fabric from the frame using the Velcro strap on the underside and remove the cover from the entire frame.
  3. Remove the covers on the cushions.

The description may not exactly match your furniture though the principle is the same on all furniture from Ire.

Put on the covers

  1. Put on the cover on one armrest. Make sure the seams are located just across all edges of the furniture otherwise the clothing will not fit. Continue to put the cover over the back and the other armrest. Then tighten the cover with the Velcro strap underneath.
  2. Begin with the front and when you get to the back you start by pulling the zipper together and then tensioning the Velcro strap underneath the furniture.
  3. When the frame is dressed, fasten the legs. Then put in the cushions in the covers.

Our sofas consist of material that can be separated by recycling.
In some cases, you may need a tool to separate the materials. Before you go to the recycling station, keep in mind that the product has a second hand value and can be used again. If you choose to go to the recycling station, you should check the recycling rules that apply locally.
