Ire`s basic philosophy has remained unchanged through the years since the start in 1939.
We produce furniture with first-class quality craftsmanship that is durable and comfortable, with pure timeless modern design.
This is an uncompromising philpsophy that poses high demands for craftmanship and attention to the smallest details. Of course this attention includes our shared enviroment. It is our firm conviction that by investing in a piece of furniture that is locally produced with sustainable quality craftmanship and timeless modern design, you are making the best and most well-reasoned choice - aesthetically, financially and environmentally.
Many of our furniture is manufactured in Tibro in Västergötland - a clean, quiet, factory with genuine craftsmanship. Here we make polyether gluing on Swedish wood frames, cutting and sewing of some fabrics and all leather, sewing of most of our fabrics in Smiltene in Latvia, upholstering and assembling of the products and packaging in renewable materials.
All production in our factory is specially made after order. This means that we start to manufacture a furniture only when we have an order, based on each customer's individual wishes. This method promotes quality and is sustainable for our environment.
In our production, care has been taken in every detail for the best possible work environment and the least possible environmental impact. We work as much as possible based on the Lean Production method. We only use water-based glue.
We work with carefully chosen designers who, together with our product developers and craftsmen, work out our furniture from scratch based on sketches and prototypes. Based on long experience, we choose which materials and which construction are most suitable. We do not take shortcuts in the development of furniture with optimal aesthetics, comfort and durability.
We have a long tradition of Swedish design and crafts but have always had the eyes directed at the international market for inspiration.
Ire was founded in 1939 in Skillingaryd in Småland by the entrepreneur Gerhard Ihreborn.
Gerhard Ihreborn and his colleagues were inspired by their vision - to produce high quality furniture with long life and good timeless modern design. The goal was never high volumes but dedication to quality.
Ire was firmly anchored in a Swedish tradition. The looks, however, were initially aimed at the international market. Ire began to export the collection in several markets early on.
Ire's basic philosophy has remained unchanged over the years. We produce furniture of first-class craft quality with long lifetime, high comfort and clean, timeless modern design. Our design remains anchored in a modern Swedish tradition, but we also get inspiration from the international design market.
Ire moved to Tibro in 1995 and was bought in 2000 by the contractor Ola Söderpalm and the designer Carl-Henrik Spak. Under the leadership of Söderpalm and Spak, Ire developed positively. Several new models are added that are still part of our collection. Lammhult Design Group bought the company 2008 and sold it in 2018 to H I T AB. In November 2021, the company was again taken over by the Söderpalm family, who today continue to run it together with the co-owners Linda Grahn (CEO) and Thomas Ahlgren (Product Development Manager).
